Lorraine Daston is a director emerita at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. Her current projects include work on the meaning of modernity in the history of science and on the relation between moral and natural orders. She is author of several books, including Objectivity (Zone Books, 2007), co-written with Peter Galison, which is about how objectivity became the cardinal epistemic virtue in science. Credit: Nick Higgins
